About Dr. Karen
Siegel
Dr. Siegel is a Licensed Psychologist.
Her education includes a B.S. with a major in Psychology, M.S. in Educational Psychology, and
Professional Certificate in School Psychology from Queens College,
CUNY, where she was awarded a Teaching Fellowship for outstanding
academic achievement and leadership potential. She
earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology, with minors in Developmental and
Clinical Psychology, from New York University.
Her specialized training includes Holistic Health Psychology and
Gestalt Psychology at Esalen Institute in California; pain
management, stress management, and sex therapy at the Long Island
Institute of Ericksonian Hypnosis;
EMDR
Training-Levels I & II Eye Movement Desensitization & Retraining for
PTSD with
Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. and William
Zangwill, Ph.D.; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Aaron Beck, M.D.;
Schema Focused Therapy with Jeffrey Young, Ph.D., Sex Abuse and
Trauma Treatment at the Masters and Johnson Center; Alcohol and
Substance Abuse Professional Certification from the American
Psychological Association (60 postdoctoral Continuing Education
Credits); End of Life Issues training from the American
Psychological Association (20 credits); disaster response training from
the American Red Cross, American Psychological Association, New York
State Psychological Association, and EMDR Humanitarian Response
Network; Sports Psychology Services in Clinical Practice from the

In addition to
private practice, Dr. Siegel has worked as a School Psychologist in
private and public schools and as a psychotherapist in a
multicultural community center in Great Neck. She has taught
at Queens College, Hofstra University, Touro College, and Nassau
Community College.
Dr. Siegel
gives presentations for
organizations, such as the United Nations, the New York State
Psychological Association, and the Nassau County Psychological

Dr. Siegel is the author of articles on such varied
topics as
position papers for the United Nations, holistic healing with a
rare neurological disease, and consumer education regarding
insurance.
Dr. Siegel is
strongly committed to improving the status of women worldwide.
She has served on the United Nations' Executive Board of the NGO
(Non-Governmental Organization)
Committee on Mental Health, Mental
Health & Gender Perspectives;
appointed as Co-Chair of The NGO Committee on the Status of Women’
Sub-Committee on Violence against Women; UNICEF NGO’s Working Group
on Girls; and NGO/UNIFEM Committee.
Dr. Siegel
was the
Charter President of Zonta International's Greater Queens Chapter
(2003); continues to serve as a dynamic leader of this diverse
service and advocacy organization and was honored by Zonta as "Woman
of the Year Working Against Violence."
Dr. Siegel belongs
to the
American Psychological Association and its Divisions for Women,
School Psychology, Sports Psychology, and Peace Studies and Conflict
Resolution; the New York State Psychological Association and its
Division of Women's Issues; the Nassau County Psychological
Association; American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy;
EMDR International Network; Orton/International Dyslexia Society;
National Association For Mentally Ill/ PATH & The Friendship
Network; International & National Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and
Family Support Network; Zonta International, Greater Queens
Club, Charter President 2003-2006 and District 3, Area 1 Director, 2006-08.
Although Dr.
Siegel is a native of New York, she has
logged many miles as a world traveler. She is fairly fluent in
Spanish and French. Her many interests
include the arts, dancing, and sports. In addition to being a
ballet enthusiast, she has studied dance and enjoys dancing.
She is an opera lover. Having studied
Fine & Decorative Arts and Antiques at Long Island University and
Sotheby's Educational Institute, she has an Antiques Appraiser’s
Certificate.

diverse background enables her to understand and help a variety of
