Dr.
Karen Siegel's Work with Zonta
Zonta International
is a service and advocacy volunteer organization of executives and
professionals, who work together to advance the status of women
throughout the world. The name, Zonta, is a Lakota Sioux
Native American word meaning honest, trustworthy, and socially
committed to helping the community. For Zonta International,
the community is worldwide.
Zonta International was founded in 1919. Today, there are almost 33,000 members in 67
countries and geographic areas. They meet in clubs, which
number 1200.
Amelia Earhart was a
member of New York Zonta...the only non-aerospace related
organization to which she belonged.
Dr. Karen Siegel
was the
Charter President of Zonta International's Greater Queens Chapter
(2003). She continues to serve as a dynamic leader of this diverse
service and advocacy organization. Zonta honored her as "Woman
of the Year Working Against Violence."
